Can I write a thesis at the Chair?
In order to be able to write a thesis at our chair, formal requirements must be met. You can find information under Theses. Please understand that the fulfillment of the formal criteria is mandatory.
Is there free supervision capacity?
We decide flexibly on the allocation of supervision capacities. Information on the allocation of supervision capacities can be found under Theses.
Will I be assigned a topic for my thesis?
The choice of topic should fall within one of the subject areas listed under Theses . We will not provide you with a specific question and you must submit it yourself using a PMG form.
Where do I start looking for a topic?
A good starting point is the textbooks of the courses and research in databases for scientific articles. We require the use of scientific literature for final theses. International sources and scientific articles are desirable for Bachelor's theses and a must for Master's theses.
Can I also write a thesis in a company?
We do not supervise purely practical theses. This means that we require your research question to have a theoretical basis. However, you are welcome to embed your scientific question in a practical business context. In this context, we are very open to empirical theses.
How do I research scientific articles?
You can find academic articles via the university library databases. Alternatively, you can use Google Scholar for a search. However, some articles are only available free of charge via the university and are chargeable via external searches such as Google. Newspaper or magazine articles, websites, etc. are not academic sources and can be ignored. Candidates for Bachelor's theses must provide proof of participation in the University Library's database training course as a formal requirement. We also recommend that candidates for Master's theses attend the training courses to refresh their knowledge of literature research and management.
What is the application procedure if I have a topic?
Please use the PMG form to submit your topic proposal. If you have any questions about the PMG, please consult the information sheet. Please send the PMG form to our secretary's office by the fixed allocation date for supervision capacities.
What should I bear in mind when writing?
Detailed information on the scope, citation, appearance, structure and design of a thesis can be found in the document "Things to know about writing academic papers at the Department of Human Resource Management and Organization Studies".
What advice is there on sufficient examination behavior?
Basic rules of good academic practice for writing academic theses can be found in the University of Kassel's bulletin dated 13.06.2014.
What are the consequences of attempted plagiarism and cheating?
You can find information on the problem of plagiarism in the handout from the Department of Studies & Teaching.
What is a colloquium? What do you have to do?
The colloquium at the end of a Bachelor's or Master's thesis is the defense of the thesis. In the colloquium, you present the results of your work (approx. 15 minutes) and discuss the content, implications and relevance of the research question (also approx. 15 minutes) with your examiner. Your presentation should also include a discussion of the expert opinion on your thesis. The colloquium grade is included in the final grade in accordance with your examination regulations. Unless otherwise agreed, the colloquia will take place in Prof. Eberl's office. If possible, students should bring their own laptop - a projector is available in the office.
How do I register for examinations?
For information on registering for examinations, please refer to the information sheet from the Department of Studies & Teaching. If you have any questions or problems, please contact your examination office and not our department!
What content from the courses is relevant for the exam?
In principle, all topics covered are relevant for the exam. Basic knowledge of any case studies, video sequences or case studies may also be required.
Where are the exams written?
With the exception of BWL-Ia, all our exams are offered in electronic form. These are written in the E-Assessment Center of the University of Kassel. You will find the exam room in Henschenstraße 2 (E-Assessmentcenter Henschelstraße 2). Access is from the campus side between the gate to the university campus and the entrance to Bistro K10.
The room allocation for the basic exams (BWL-Ia) is managed centrally. For this purpose, there is regularly a specially created Moodle course called "Grundlagenklausuren".
What should I bear in mind when taking an e-exam?
If you have any further questions about e-exams, please consult the website of the e-assessment center. There you will also find FAQs on e-exams.
I failed the exam/was ill/abroad/unable to attend on the day of the exam. Is it possible to retake the exam?
Our department does not offer re-writing exams after the main exam. If you have not passed the exam, you will have to wait for the next exam (the BWL-Ia lecture takes place every semester, for specialization courses there is a repeat exam every semester without a corresponding lecture). For reasons of examination law, it is not possible to provide proof of performance in another form (oral examination, term paper, etc.).
I have another exam at the same time as my written exam. What can I do?
We have no influence on the scheduling of exams for the undergraduate degree course in Economics, as they are coordinated centrally. We can guarantee that there will be no overlapping exams based on the regular curriculum. The examinations for the specialization courses usually take place on the last course date. As we regularly map our course offerings in detail in the HIS system, we assume that you will avoid scheduling conflicts as part of your own semester planning.
Can I view my exam with you?
We always offer two inspection dates (one during the lecture period, one during the semester break). You will find these dates on our department homepage under "Infothek" --> "News" after the exam results have been announced. Registration is mandatory for the examination inspection. The registration procedure will be announced when the inspection dates are announced. Our chair does not offer individual inspection dates.
How does the examination inspection work?
In order to create a uniform framework for all students and in the interest of fairness towards your fellow students (including those who do not take advantage of an exam inspection), the Chair of Human Resource Management & Organization sets out the following rules for the inspection of your exam:
- The order of inspection depends on your appearance. If you are not registered, you will not be able to view your exam. Please note that this is only an inspection and not a discussion of your exam. Pens and paper for taking notes will be provided by the chair.
- No sample solutions will be provided or explanations given for the assessment of individual subtasks. The answers to the exam will be based on the content outlined in the lecture (including slides and recommended literature), so you can and should work out a sample solution yourself.
- If you have any complaints about your exam, please contact the supervisory staff.
I would like to have an external achievement recognized, what can I do?
First of all, you need to be aware of how the recognition process works, which achievements are worthy of recognition and, above all, who your contact persons are. There are various information sheets for this on the University of Kassel website. You will find these clearly arranged according to the respective degree programs under the following link: Click me!
Who is responsible for the recognition of foreign credits?
Please take a look at the following overview for the degree programs "Economic Sciences", "Business Studies" and "Economic Behavior & Governance".
I would like to spend a semester abroad soon - what do I need?
If you are planning to spend a semester abroad at a foreign university and want to make sure that the planned courses are worthy of recognition, you will need the form for the recommendation of credits earned abroad. Please complete this form as independently as possible. Please note that under "Module name" you do not enter the name of the respective Kassel course, but the name of the underlying module. If you would like to have "Introduction to Management Studies" recognized abroad, do not enter "Introduction to Management Studies" here, but rather, for example, "Focus 2 - Compulsory" (module title).
You must complete this form separately for each course abroad. As soon as you have done this, please send the completed form (including the description of the content of the courses abroad) to Mr. Kijan Vakilzadeh.
I have already spent a semester abroad - what can I do?
If you have already spent a semester abroad, there are three options:
1) Do you already have a signed recommendation for recognition? Fill out the following form for recognition and send it to Mr. Vakilzadeh.
2) You already have a signed recommendation for recognition, but there have been changes to the courses abroad? Please also complete the form mentioned under 1). However, please also send the course description of the new courses.
3) You did not receive a signed recommendation for recognition before the start of the semester abroad? Please also complete the form mentioned under 1). However, please also send the course description of the new courses.
I come from another university and would like to have my studies recognized for various credits at the University of Kassel.
To do this, please note which of the courses you have already completed fall within Mr. Vakilzadeh's area of responsibility. For these, please send a course/module description, your transcript of records, as well as the largely completed application for recognition for recognition.
Who is my contact person?
Please contact Mr. Kijan Vakilzadeh if you have any questions regarding the recognition of external achievements.
