RADM - Responsible Algorithmic Decision Making in the Work Environment.

The project

Our working world is already heavily influenced by algorithmic decision-making ("ADM"), e.g. in employee recruitment processes, in the management of workers in everyday work, or in the support of human decision-makers in complex issues.

In addition to the great potentials of ADM for companies and governmental organizations, there are enormous challenges in the fact that decisions are made to the disadvantage of workers - in the form of unequal treatment, loss of autonomy, exclusion or even increasing precariousness. This leads to the following research question: How must work contexts shaped by ADM be designed in order to promote responsible management of the workforce? What technical, organizational and regulatory framework conditions should be put in place?

The focus of our investigation of responsible ADM in tomorrow's workplace is on three aspects:

  • the analysis of the effects of ADM on work processes and content as well as on the self-determination and living conditions of workers
  • the investigation of human-machine work configurations and their responsible design for the working world of the future
  • the analysis and classification of organizational, legal and regulatory framework conditions for a responsible design of work contexts of the future.
