The project

Our working world is already heavily influenced by algorithmic decision making (ADM), e.g. in employee recruitment processes, in the management of workers in everyday working life or in the support of human decision-makers in complex issues.

In addition to the great potential of ADM for companies and state organizations, there are enormous challenges in that decisions are made to the disadvantage of workers - in the form of unequal treatment, loss of autonomy, exclusion or even increasing precarization. This gives rise to the following research question: How must work contexts shaped by ADM be designed in order to promote a responsible approach to workers? What technical, organizational and regulatory framework conditions should be set?

The focus of our investigation into responsible ADM in the working world of tomorrow is on three aspects:

  • the analysis of the effects of Administrative ADM on work processes and content as well as on the self-determination and living conditions of workers
  • the investigation of human-machine work configurations and their responsible design for the working world of the future
  • the analysis and classification of organizational, legal and regulatory framework conditions for a responsible design of work contexts of the future
