The KOF Institute of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich was commissioned by Wirtschaftswoche to examine the scientific output of all business economists working at professorships, Fraunhofer or Max Planck Institutes in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Publications from the past ten years in over 800 specialist journals were taken into account. A score was awarded for each publication, depending on the reputation of the journal.

"The ranking of Kassel's business economists in the top 20 of all economics faculties reflects the creativity and productivity of our academics," says Prof. Dr. Björn Frank, Dean of the faculty. "The interplay of excellent research and practice-oriented teaching also has a positive effect on business studies at the University of Kassel."

The department's first-time success in the ranking is complemented by outstanding placings for individual academics. With Prof. Dr. Matthias Söllner (10th place among the under-40s, 66th place for publication output in the last 5 years and 204th place in the lifetime ranking) and Prof. André Hanelt (16th place among the under-40s and 54th place for publication output in the last 5 years), two professors are very well placed in the ranking of the under-40s. In addition, Prof. Dr. Jan Marco Leimeister (24th place for publication output in the last 5 years and 11th place in the lifetime ranking) and Prof. Dr. Stefan Seuring (43rd place for publication output in the last 5 years and 71st place in the lifetime ranking) are two professors who have been represented in all editions of this ranking to date.

The data source for the ranking was the bibliometric web portal Forschungsmonitoring, which is operated by the KOF Swiss Economic Institute of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich.

The ranking was published on 09.12.2022 in the magazine Wirtschaftswoche.
