Bio  (Dr. Mar­cel Lum­kow­sky)

Marcel Lumkowsky is a research fellow and lecturer at the Chair of Environmental and Behavioral Economics at the University of Kassel. He completed his PhD there in January 2026 with a dissertation on mechanisms for solving cooperation problems in social dilemmas. Prior to this, he obtained an MSc in Environmental and Resource Economics from Kiel University and a BSc in Economics from Leuphana University Lüneburg. During his studies, he worked as a student research assistant at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB), and the Institute of Economics at Leuphana University Lüneburg. His research focuses on institutional and behavioral economic mechanisms that promote cooperation, particularly in the context of international climate policy. His work combines online and laboratory experiments with the empirical analysis of survey data.
