Where can I hand in my thesis?

You can submit your thesis within our personaloffice hours or by dropping it in the mailbox (large gray mailbox) in front of the Examinations Office. You may also submit your thesis by post. The postmark date is the date of submission and serves to meet the deadline. To be on the safe side, please keep the proof of posting.

Postal address:
University of Kassel
Examination Office FB07
Henschelstraße 2
34109 Kassel

Alternatively and outside the regular opening hours, the mailbox at the main administration, Mönchebergstraße 19, can be used for submission.

The thesis must not be submitted to the chair or handed directly to the assessors.

What do I need to consider when submitting my thesis?

Please refer to the letter of admission from the Examination Board sent to you by post for all details on submitting your thesis in your degree program.

Please note that changes to the thesis topic are generally not permitted.

The topic can only be changed and thus returned in the first third of the processing time. The examination office must be notified. Grammatical corrections (without changing the meaning of the content) are possible.

What is the purpose of the declaration of independence and what do I have to pay attention to?

The purpose of the declaration of independence is to make all aids used in a written paper transparent and thus ensure equal opportunities. In addition to the declaration that all literature sources used have been identified, this now also includes information on the use of technical aids, which must also be listed in detail.

With regard to the use of AI, you will find a table to be completed in the declaration of independence with two examples that you can use as a guide.

Important: The use of AI is generally not prohibited. In fact, the use of AI is recommended when editing a thesis.

If individual text suggestions have been generated with the help of AI, the AI must be cited as the source in the table and at the relevant points in the body text. The same applies to translations: In addition to the original source, the AI tool used must also be named both in the running text and in the table. If you have any questions, please contact the supervisor of your thesis directly.

In principle, the principles of good scientific practice apply. Individual Faculties of Faculty 07 have published corresponding guidelines. You can find a detailed description on the official website of the University of Kassel in the "Law and Organization" section.

Please make sure that you list all the resources used in your written work in detail. Failure to do so may be considered an attempt to deceive, which in the worst case could lead to de-registration. In such a case, your academic title can also be revoked retrospectively. Nobody wants this to happen and it can be avoided by providing correct and complete information.

What is the purpose of the Declaration of Authorship, and what do I need to pay attention to?

The Declaration of Authorship serves to make all aids and resources used in a written paper transparent, thereby ensuring equal opportunities among students. In addition to the statement that all literature sources have been properly acknowledged, it now also includes information on the use of technical tools, which must likewise be listed in detail.

With regard to the use of AI, you will find in the Declaration of Authorship a table to be filled in, including two examples to guide you.

Important: The use of AI is not generally prohibited. For proofreading purposes, the use of AI is even recommended.

If text suggestions were generated with the help of AI, the AI tool must be cited both in the table and in the relevant passages of the main text. The same applies to translations: in addition to the original source, the AI tool used must also be indicated both in the main text and in the table. If you have any questions, please contact the supervisor of your thesis directly.

In principle, the Principles for Safeguarding Good Academic Practice apply. Some departments within FB 07 have published their own guidelines on this. A detailed presentation can be found on the official website of the University of Kassel under "Law and Organization."

Attention: Please make sure to provide detailed information on all aids and resources used in your written work. Any violation may be considered an attempt at deception, which in the worst case can lead to expulsion (Exmatrikulation). Even retrospectively, your academic degree may be revoked in such a case. Nobody wants this to happen, and it can easily be avoided through correct and complete documentation.

As a rule, students must deregister via eCampusbefore the deregistration deadline stated in the course catalog . Please ensure that you receive a confirmation from the system.

After the end of the deregistration period: Withdrawal from an examination after the deadline is only possible for an important reason. The provisions of § 15 Para. 3 AB Bachelor/Master then apply: The withdrawal must be reported immediately in writing to the chair of the examination board and the reason must be substantiated.

If you are unable to take the examination for health reasons , please submit your original medical certificate (paper form with the doctor's signature) to the Examinations Office.

In the case of incapacity to take an examination during the examination , the regulations of § 15 para. 3 AB Bachelor/Master apply.

Where do I have to submit the medical certificate?

Please submit the original medical certificate to the Examinations Office FB07 within 3 calendar days (after the occurrence of the case of illness / determination date) or send it by post to the following address:

University of Kassel
Examination Office FB07

What happens if I have submitted a certificate in due time and form?

You will be deregistered from the course registration. Once the medical certificate has been booked, the registration is no longer visible on the benefits overview. You will need to register again in order to provide the service.

Applying for recognition and transfer of credits

The decision on the recognition of credits earned abroad is the responsibility of the examination board of the degree program you are studying here at the University of Kassel. A change of degree program, a double degree program or re-enrollment in an admission-free degree program is only possible during the general enrollment period for the following semester and must be applied for in eCampus.

Bachelor's and teaching degree programs

Admission-restricted degree programs (NC degree programs)

A change of degree program, a double degree program or re-enrollment in an admission-restricted degree program is only possible during the application deadlines. You require admission as part of the application procedure for degree programs with restricted admission.
You can also apply via eCampus. If you have received a place, you must also carry out the transfer in eCampus. In the enrolment documents generated, you can indicate whether you prefer a double degree or a change of degree program.

Re-enrolment is only possible within the general enrolment period for the following semester. To do this, please complete the application for re-enrollment.

If you wish to change degree programs or double degree programs, you must reapply via the University of Kassel's online portal. You can find the online portal on the page of the desired Master's degree program.

You may be able to have credits from your previous studies transferred to the new degree program. To do this, please contact the examination office of the desired degree program.

Which of my achievements will be recognized if I change degree program or university?

Please contact the examination office responsible for the degree program you wish to change to. Submit your previous achievements to the relevant examination office. You will then be issued a letter of recognition with a classification in a higher semester. You can use this letter to apply for a higher semester or to be placed in a higher semester at a later date. To do this, submit the letter to the Admissions Office.
Please note that the application and enrolment deadlines must also be observed when applying for a higher semester.

In HIS-POS, first select the subject, then the module, the desired examination and the associated course and click on this course. Here you will also be given the registration deadlines and the examination date, if this information is stored in the system. After clicking on "Register for exam", you will be asked again whether you want to register for the selected exam. Repeat this process for all the exams you wish to take. Any errors will be displayed in the "Status" column after the registration process (on the far right, usually "OK").

When registering for examinations, always pay attention to possible system messages.

Please do not use your smartphone to register for exams. The error rate is still too high!

Please always pay attention to the registration status (far right). This field indicates the reason why an examination registration may not be accepted.

If an exam registration fails, you must contact the Examinations Office by email within the registration deadline. Please use the "Digital registration form for exams (if HIS registration is not possible)" form provided for this purpose.

You will find the dates of the lecture and the examination date in the course catalog under the respective course. The room with the exact time is also listed here. Further information on the course can be found under remarks.

Make sure that you are in the correct semester or switch to the appropriate semester if necessary.

Cancellation of an examination is possible until 11.59 p.m. the day before.

In this case, please contact the Examinations Office in writing(e-mail contacts by degree program) and ask for manual deregistration. Please also note the deadline for deregistration (the date of receipt of the e-mail counts).

You can recognize the exams that have already been sorted by the fact that they are listed in the display case next to the exam viewing area. You are also welcome to ask our student assistants during the opening hours of the exam viewing area whether the exam you wish to view has already been sorted.
