Prof. Dr. Claudia Neu has held the Chair of Sociology of Rural Areas at the Universities of Göttingen and Kassel since September 2016. From 2009 - 2016, she was Professor of General Sociology and Empirical Social Research at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences. Prior to this, she worked at the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute (Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forests and Fisheries) in Braunschweig. Prof. Neu was a research assistant at the Institute for Sociology and Demography at the University of Rostock. She studied and completed her doctorate at the University of Bonn. She is currently working on the topics of demographic change, civil society and services of general interest in rural areas.
