Dr. Mario Torralba

Dr. Mario Torralba has been a post-doctoral fellow in the working group for Social-Ecological Interactions in Agricultural Systems at the Universities of Kassel and Göttingen since February 2018. He studied biology with a Master's degree in ecology at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Later he received his PhD from the Department of Earth Sciences and Natural Resource Management at the University of Copenhagen on "Analysis of the provision of ecosystem services, trade-offs and social-ecological interactions in European wood pastures".

His research interests lie in the field of landscape sustainability science, ecosystem services and the sustainable use of natural resources. He has experience in various EU research projects such as AGFORWARD (agroforestry that drives rural development) and ESMERALDA (improving the mapping of ecosystem services for policy and decision making) and SINCERE (Spurring Innovations in Forest Ecosystem Services in Europe). He is currently working in the DFG project Landscape chains, where he is carrying out an analysis of the social-ecological trade-offs around the cultivation of some selected landscape products in the Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
