Introduction and monitoring of an animal welfare survey (application of the KAT tool) on pilot laying hen farms ("Pilot KAT tool" project)
Project Leader: Prof. Dr. Knierim, Ute; Gieseke, Daniel
Project participants: Keppler, Christiane
Project description:
The objective of this project is to introduce a regular, systematic animal welfare assessment (on-farm self-monitoring) on 50 KAT-laying hen farms and to monitor this process. Different training materials for online and face-to-face training are created, based on the modified KAT-document "herd assessment". Training will be conducted and an online test concerning inter-assessor agreement between auditors/test farms and experts are designed. After implementation of the animal welfare self-monitoring, test farms and auditors are interviewed about the feasibility of the animal welfare assessment with the KAT-tool and the training materials for online and face-to-face training will be modified if necessary.
