Brief Introduction
Tomisin Babalola is a research associate in the Section of Grassland Science and Renewable Plant Resources at the University of Kassel. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Chemistry and a Master of Science in Organic Chemistry, both from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. She also earned a second Master of Science in Structural Chemistry and Spectroscopy from Leipzig University, Germany.
For her most recent master’s thesis, conducted at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), she developed and validated LC-HRMS/MS methods for the extraction and analysis of aromatic amines from textiles. This work contributed to a peer-reviewed publication in Environmental Pollution (Goellner et al., 2026).
Prior to starting her PhD, she worked as an R&D Analytical Chemist at Bell Flavours & Fragrances, where she applied GC-FID-MS and HS-MS techniques in research and development projects related to flavours and fragrances.
Her current research focuses on the fermentation of grassland biomass invaded by Lupinus polyphyllus to obtain bioactive fractions with potential applications as seed-priming agents, biofungicides, or cosmetic ingredients. Her work contributes to the development of sustainable, biotechnology-based approaches for the management and valorisation of invasive plant species.
