Biomass Discovery & Transformation

The Biomass Discovery & Transformation research group evolved from the former Environmental Process Engineering research group, previously headed by Dr.-Ing. Korbinian Kätzl. Following his appointment as Professor of Urban Water Management at TU Dresden, leadership of the research group was transferred to Dr. Carolina de Castro Bueno. Under her leadership, the group is further developing its research profile, building on its existing foundations while introducing new scientific perspectives and research directions.

Discovering the potential of grassland biomass – from ecosystem to molecule.

We connect chemical ecology, biomass discovery and biotransformation to open new directions for agriculture and bio-based materials. Our research follows biomass across twelve orders of magnitude.

Three perspectives. One connected approach.

Questions driving our research.

Solid residues follow a pyrolysis pathway towards carbon materials. An outer loop represents the circular bioeconomy and ecosystem preservation.
