Do we need a Grand Strategy for Water, Land and Food?

Abstract:
Do we need a Grand Strategy for Water, Land and Food?
This research colloquium situates resource politics within the broader field of international relations, focusing on the growing salience of realism, the decline of Western dominance, and the rise of the Global South. It critically assesses past failures to integrate environmental concerns into global governance and asks whether securitizing natural resources can provide a path forward. The discussion engages with the concept of “grand strategy” to interrogate whether framing water, land, and food as strategic sectors is necessary, or whether it risks becoming another rhetorical diversion.
