UHPC facing concrete for terrace slabs

For years, customer demand for surfaces that are insensitive to soiling ("easy to clean") has been steadily increasing for patio tiles and other related products. However, all previous measures (e.g. hydrophobization, impregnation) cannot provide lasting protection due to mechanical abrasion.

The aim of the project is therefore to use UHPC concretes as a facing layer for patio slabs, which, due to their high structural density, significantly reduce or prevent the penetration of dirt via capillary suction.

Due to the significantly higher abrasion resistance of the UHPC concrete facing layer, the durability of the dirt-resistant layer is not only limited to a few years, but remains permanently in place. In addition, the use of these construction products for mechanically more heavily loaded areas (e.g. public spaces with traffic) will also be possible.

Terrace slabs with a UHPC facing layer obtain the so-called "easy to clean" effect completely without the use of organic raw materials. The building material is thus purely mineral and can be easily recycled, i.e. returned to the building material cycle.

Furthermore, in addition to the development of dense UHPC facing layers, the focus of the project is also on the development of a suitable manufacturing process based on the hermetic principle.
