The Department of Transport Planning and Transport Systems (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering) is looking for several student assistants to work on the research project "Modeling the transport demand of vacation travelers and day visitors in large cities II".

The main work content is the implementation of guest surveys at selected tourist locations in the city of Kassel (e.g. Herkules, Orangerie, Bergpark). The working hours include in particular Fridays and Saturdays as well as public holidays and, if necessary, bridging days from May up to and including August.

We expect a high degree of reliability, enjoy communicating with other people and have a good command of German. English language skills are advantageous.

The employment is limited from 01.04.2026 to 31.08.2026. Availability over the entire period is desirable, but not mandatory. Employment over part of the period is possible. The specific dates of employment will be determined by mutual agreement so that there are sufficient days off.

Payment is in line with the University of Kassel's requirements and amounts to €14.20 per hour without a first professional qualification or €15.26 per hour with a first professional qualification.

An internal training course will be held in April to prepare for the position.

The position offers the opportunity to gain insights into empirical research at the interface of transportation and tourism sciences. There is also the opportunity to write a project-related thesis in the department.

Student Assistant (m/f/d) Wanted
in the Department of Transportation Planning and Transportation Systems (FB 14) to support the DyNaMo project (www.uni-kassel.de/forschung/dynamo)

We are looking for a student assistant to support our interdisciplinary research project “DyNaMo: Safe and Sustainable Mobility in the City of Tomorrow.” The project focuses on researching AI-based methods for capturing cyclists’ riding behavior and developing effective infrastructure and training measures to improve traffic safety.
Since the project is designed to run over an extended period and we value long-term commitment, this position is intended for students who have not yet completed their studies.

You should (ideally) have:
• An interest in the topic of “bicycle traffic safety and AI-supported mobility research”
• Experience in scientific work (absolutely required)
• Willingness to familiarize yourself with topics outside your field of study and take on a variety of tasks
• Proficiency with common Office applications
Your field of study is secondary—what matters more to us is your interest in interdisciplinary research and your willingness to familiarize yourself with various subject areas.
