Concrete is the most widely used building material in structural and civil engineering. Its versatility, durability, availability and structural performance make it indispensable. The supporting structures in residential and urban construction as well as in civil engineering, such as bridges, tunnels or parts of wind turbines, are made entirely or partly of reinforced or prestressed concrete. Accordingly, there is enormous potential here for the construction of tomorrow. The aim of the professorship is to address the urgent global issues of climate change, resource scarcity, urbanization, mobility and energy generation and to research and offer solution strategies from the perspective of solid construction with the support of digitalization and automation technologies. We deal with issues relating to load transfer mechanisms in solid construction, concrete with recycled aggregate, new joining principles for modular components and the shear load-bearing behavior of steel, prestressed and carbon concrete components in bridge and building construction (new construction and maintenance).
