Cycling and Sustainable Mobility

At the Department of Cycling and Urban Mobility, we research and teach on one of the central questions of our time: How do we design mobility for tomorrow? Walking and cycling are at the heart of this - as sustainable, socially just and practical forms of mobility.

This is another reason why we want our teaching and research to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Our research ranges from traffic planning concepts to mobility simulations and behavioral analysis.

The department was established in October 2021 as one of the first endowed professorships for cycling in Germany. It is responsible for teaching and research at the interface of cycling and sustainable mobility and thus strengthens the central pillar of sustainability at the University of Kassel.

Whether in studies, research or in cooperation with local authorities and institutions: We combine curiosity, expertise and commitment. Together with our students, partners and colleagues, we don't just want to analyze cycling, we want to actively promote it.

We are continuously working on surveys, real-world laboratories and current research projects on cycling and local mobility. Our results flow directly into teaching and practice and offer insights into trends, challenges and new solutions in mobility research.

We also regularly host events relating to cycling and sustainable mobility - from lectures and workshops to excursions and open formats. They offer insights into research and practice and invite you to talk to experts and students.
