Flexilienz - Future-proof water supply for Kassel
Flexilienz stands for a resilient and flexible drinking water supply in times of climate change and the energy transition. The project strengthens the security of supply in Kassel through innovative technologies and intelligent system coupling.
News
What flexibility does:
Safe utilization of spring water after extreme weather:
Drinking water sources remain usable even after heavy rainfall events - thanks to new filtration technologies that are being tested directly in real-life operations.
Hydrogen from filter backwash water:
Filter backwash water is processed into ultrapure water for water electrolysis. A pilot electrolyser then produces green hydrogen from it - a sensible use of scarce resources.
Innovative load management:
By intelligently coupling electricity consumption with the supply of renewable energy, energy costs are sustainably reduced. Modern forecasting models and real-time data are used here.
The Kassel real-world laboratory acts as a test environment for scalable solutions - with the aim of transferring them to other regions. In this way, flexibility helps to conserve resources, reduce costs and cut CO₂ emissions.
