At river-km 200,79 the river Main is dammed by the barrage Steinbach. The barrage consists of a weir with three weir fields, a powerhouse with two turbines and a lock with adjacent fish ladder. As part of the project, the Department of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management is investigating the flow situation in the downstream vicinity of the dam for various operating conditions. The investigations include steady-state simulations of the normal operation of the dam as well as transient simulations in case of a turbine fast closure with subsequent discharge transfer to the weir. The investigations are based on a two-dimensional hydrodynamic-numerical (2D-HN) model of the dam.

Keywords: 2D-HN modeling, turbine fast closure
