CINSaT Spring Colloquium 2017

About 80 scientists present their research results

From February 15-16, the time had come again: CINSaT had invited to the annual two-day internal retreat at the Ahorn Berghotel in Friedrichroda. With around 80 participants, this year's conference was once again able to build on last year's already pleasingly high number of participants, which once again underlines the positive development of the scientific center in recent years. At the beginning of the colloquium, the participants were warmly welcomed by the speaker of CINSaT, Prof. Dr. Johann Peter Reithmaier, who then presented the history of CINSaT, the current organizational structure as well as recent activities within CINSaT in an overview lecture. The background of the lecture was that with Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Volker Mosbrugger, the General Director of the Senckenberg Society for Natural Research, was the first external speaker to be invited to the colloquium. He then gave a captivating presentation to the audience, introducing the activities of the Senckenberg Society. The lectures served to get to know each other, to exchange information and to plan a possible strategic collaboration between the two institutions.

In addition to four series of lectures in the context of CINSaT's scientific focus, each of which was introduced and subsequently moderated by the focus speakers in overview lectures, the varied program was enriched by introductory lectures by Prof. Dr. Christiane Koch (FG Quantum Dynamics and Control), Prof. Dr. Arno Müller (FG Developmental Genetics) and Prof. Dr. Peter Lehmann (FG Metrology) in the course of the applications for membership in CINSaT that had been submitted in advance. Within the framework of the priority areas, the scientific staff of the participating departments presented the latest results from the world of nanostructures in an impressive way. The interdisciplinary cooperation between the different disciplines was emphasized in all presentations as an important foundation for the results achieved.

This was confirmed once again by the high number of five interdisciplinary collaborative projects involving CINSaT members, which were funded under the funding lines "Future", "Building Graduate Programs" and "Bridges" in the context of the further profile development of the University of Kassel. The research topics of the approved projects were presented to the participants in a separate lecture series in the form of illustrative overview lectures.

In order to intensify and deepen the scientific exchange, the programme was again rounded off by an evening poster session. The numerous research activities within the framework of the CINSaT focal points were presented on a total of 45 posters, whereby the ingenuity for the visual presentation of the results, e.g. by showing film material with the help of tablets, knew no bounds. This year's poster session, which was open-ended for the first time, thus provided ample opportunity for planning future collaborations.
