The 2026 Ulrich Teichler Prize and GfHf Prize have been awarded: Congratulations to Sabine Freudhofmayer, Gunther Dahm, and Zoe Maldonado!!!

The Ulrich Teichler Prize was awarded for the first time in 2008. Professor Dr. Ulrich Teichler (INCHER Kassel), a higher education researcher based in Kassel, established the prize to encourage young scholars to engage academically with issues in higher education research. At the same time, the prize aims to raise public awareness of outstanding work by emerging scholars in this field. The prize is awarded annually at the annual conference of the Society for Higher Education Research, which is also responsible for selecting the recipients.
From among the submissions, a jury selected the following winners in 2026:
Sabine Freudhofmayer for her dissertation on the topic „Studieren im Kontext der Ökonomisierung von Hochschulbildung: Rekonstruktionen zum kollektiven Erfahrungsraum der Studierenden der Bildungs- und Erziehungswissenschaft“ at the Universiy of Wien (Austria),
Gunther Dahm for his dissertation „Studieren ohne Hochschulreife. Ausmaß und Determinanten des Studienerfolgs von nicht-traditionellen Studierenden“ at the University of Hannover and
Zoe Maldonado for her master thesis „ Exploring Higher Education Observatories in a Data-Driven Context” at the University for Continuing Education in Krems (Austria).
A prerequisite for the award is that the work makes a substantial contribution to the academic and professional advancement of university research. The Ulrich Teichler Prize for Dissertations consists of a grant for printing costs of up to €2,000, as well as a cash prize of €1,000. The cash prize for the winning theses is €1,000.
