New chair elected for the Expert Commission on Research and Innovation
Berlin, 6 August 2025 — The Expert Commission for Research and Innovation (EFI) has appointed a
new chair. Prof. Dr. Irene Bertschek from ZEW Mannheim and the University of Giessen was unanimously elected as the new chair by the commission members.
Prof. Dr. Carolin Häussler from the University of Passau was also unanimously elected as deputy chair. The reason for the election was the scheduled departure of Prof. Dr. Uwe Cantner (University of Jena), who had been a member of the EFI since 2015 and had chaired the commission since June 2019. The vacant position has not yet been filled.
Both Uwe Cantner and Carolin Häussler lead projects within the DFG Research Group ‘Multiple Competition in the Higher Education System in International Comparison’, which is coordinated by INCHER.
