Prof. Nelson Casimiro Zavale

Professor Nelson Casimiro Zavale is currently an Alexander von Humboldt fellow and visiting scholar at INCHER for three years (2018-2021). Nelson Casimiro Zavale is Associate Professor of Sociology of Education and Higher Education Studies and Director of the Quality Assurance Office of the Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo, Mozambique. From 2016 to mid-2017, he served as Deputy-Dean for Research and Extension at the Faculty of Education of the Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo, and during 2013-2016, as the Head of Department of the Quality Assurance Office at the same Faculty. During 2015/2016, he was a post-doctoral Research fellow at the University of Basel (Switzerland), a fellowship funded by the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship for Foreign Scholars.

His research interests are concerned with understanding and questioning the relationship between education and development, with particular focus on higher education, curriculum and knowledge. He is currently undertaking, among other projects, a research on mechanisms of collaboration between universities and external stakeholders in Mozambique, funded by an Alexander Von Humboldt fellowship.
