New: M. Fellner analyses the ‘extraordinary study status’, a special feature of the Austrian higher education system, in her latest article

The „außerordentliche Studienstatus“ (extraordinary study status) is currently granted at Austrian universities if one of the following three conditions is met: (1) Students only attend individual courses (e.g. as part of a course at the ‘host university’ or out of interest) without being enrolled on a ‘regular’ course at the host university, (2) students are in the transition phase to regular status, e.g. due to nostrification, the university entrance qualification examination or a preliminary study programme, or (3) students are enrolled on a university course. This is a specific Austrian phenomenon for which no equivalent can be found internationally. The article shows the genesis and dynamics on the one hand and the far-reaching consequences associated with this study status on the other.
