ITeG Research Days

Following three presentations on various topics—“Prerequisites and Skills for Successful Hybrid Intelligence,” “Formal Concept Analysis,” and “Generative AI: Analysis of Work Tasks and Job Characteristics”—questions regarding hybrid intelligence and generative AI were explored in greater depth from an interdisciplinary perspective during a World Café session.

In small, mixed groups, participants discussed original questions and connections to their own research, particularly regarding the following topics: effective support for early-career researchers from the users’ perspective, digital self-determination, critical competencies, hybrid intelligence, and, last but not least, ... generative AI systems.

Four small, interdisciplinary groups worked on the following topics: “Good” algorithms without bias? / Sociotechnical design of hybrid intelligent systems / Empirical studies: transparency and data protection / Interdisciplinarity: experiences and challenges.

In the format of a “Knowledge Café,” small, interdisciplinary groups worked on two topics—the General Data Protection Regulation and digital evaluation practices—using prepared worksheets. The tablecloths were presented in a large circle as part of a “results gallery,” where the participants’ work was compared and contrasted. A well-deserved finale: the ITeG summer barbecue.

All ITeG research areas presented their research agendas, current research questions, and existing and potential connections to ITeG topics and disciplines to the entire group for discussion. During coffee breaks and the barbecue, there were many opportunities for networking and further discussion.

The kickoff for the ITeG doctoral program “Sociotechnical Design Competence in the Digital Society” began with a poster session on various dissertation topics. Afterward, small, mixed-group sessions were held to discuss thematic and organizational issues. The results were presented to the entire group.

In a speed-dating format, the doctoral candidates were tasked this summer with presenting their own projects concisely yet clearly in just a few minutes. In the second part, small interdisciplinary groups worked on shared positions regarding ITeG topics. The research day was rounded off with the ITeG summer party.
On the second Research Day in December, participants worked on specific tasks. Professors also joined the interdisciplinary small groups. The day provided valuable input both for substantive discussions at ITeG and for team building. The event concluded with a pre-Christmas get-together.

The first interdisciplinary research day at ITeG featured presentations from eight fields of study and ample time for questions and discussion, creating an open atmosphere and providing an opportunity to get to know one another, ask questions, and gain a better understanding. This format for mutual exchange and the development of joint research projects will continue at ITeG.
