Research on privacy and data protection at the ITeG has traditionally focused on the changing conditions of self-determination in the digital information society. Privacy and data protection are examined in relation to fundamental rights and the core values of democracy, the very existence of which is threatened without the development and maintenance of critical and independent judgment. On the one hand, the digital world provides expanded resources for this purpose; on the other hand, it also presents numerous threats and challenges.
