Information security: End of support for Windows 10 for business devices - switch to Windows 11 mandatory by 15.10.2025
This information concerns all employees of the University of Kassel who still use a PC with Windows 10.
Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, after which Microsoft will no longer provide security updates for devices used for business purposes. Without this support, computers with Windows 10 pose a significant risk to information security - both in the university network and when used via VPN.
The CIO committee of the University of Kassel has therefore decided that the changeover to Windows 11 has the highest priority. Please ensure that your work computers are updated to Windows 11 by this date.
- For UKC clients: To make an appointment for the upgrade, simply call the IT Service Desk on extension -5678.
- For all other business PCs: Please contact the IT administrator responsible for you.
- For self-administered devices: You are responsible for carrying out the changeover yourself.
If in exceptional cases (e.g. control PCs for research equipment) a changeover is not an option, you will need a one-year support extension. Please contact the IT service desk by email at it-servicedesk[at]uni-kassel[dot]de in consultation with your IT administrator to obtain a corresponding license key.
From October 15, devices with Windows 10 may no longer be operated on the University of Kassel network without valid Microsoft support.
