Precautionary Security Measure: Enabling External Access to Websites and Web Applications

As our Chancellor, Mr. Fromm, announced on Wednesday afternoon, we have blocked access to all web services at the central firewall due to a security vulnerability that has become known worldwide (involving “PHP”).

Bug fixes for the current PHP versions are now available for download and installation. These bug fixes will also be incorporated into the repositories of the various distributions after a short delay.

So that we can restore access to your systems that need to be accessible from the Internet, please send us an email with the following information to < web-freischaltung[at]uni-kassel[dot]de >:

  • Name of the system administrator
  • IP address(es) of the system
  • Domain name of the system
  • Required IP ports: 80, 443, 8080, 8443
  • Confirmation that the system
    • does not have a PHP stack installed or
    • has the current PHP version (security patch) installed

Please check this carefully and do not request activation until the verification is complete. Ideally, the system is already listed in the Assets database (https://assets.uni-kassel.de).

Activation will then take place promptly during regular business hours.

Please direct any questions to < it-servicedesk[at]uni-kassel[dot]de >.
