Where Research Thrives—Department Supports Location Marketing Campaign

With its new location marketing campaign, “Kassel – Where the Future Has Space,” the Kassel economic region is positioning itself nationwide as a destination for investment, innovation, entrepreneurial growth, and new career opportunities. The campaign launched on September 15, 2026, with large-format outdoor advertising in Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Frankfurt am Main, and Munich. This presence in these cities is complemented by advertising on transit media as well as nationwide digital initiatives and social media. The campaign is specifically aimed at investors and companies, talented professionals and entrepreneurs, as well as startups and stakeholders from the fields of science and research. The Human-Machine Systems Engineering department is participating with two themes—“Human vs. Machine?” and “Reaching New Heights Together”—and offers a glimpse into its robotics lab in a video.

The Kassel region is one of Hesse’s leading centers for innovation and technology. As the largest economic and metropolitan area in central Germany, it brings together unique expertise in energy, mobility, defense, and science—supported by internationally active companies, high-performing research, and a dynamic startup scene. In the energy sector, expertise ranges from storage and transportation technologies to solar energy. In the mobility sector, Volkswagen and Daimler Truck, a diverse rail industry, and aerospace companies drive development and industrial manufacturing. With KNDS, Rheinmetall, and Airbus, Kassel also boasts significant expertise in the defense sector. In addition, a center of excellence for drone technology is being established at Kassel Airport.

Science and the startup scene are another driving force: The University of Kassel, with approximately 21,000 students, focuses specifically on knowledge transfer, startups, and new research and development facilities. Around 400 companies, providing 15,000 jobs, have already emerged from its ecosystem. In Kassel, academia, research, and business practice converge. The University of Kassel, research institutes, and companies collaborate on issues that extend far beyond the region. Key areas of focus include digitalization, renewable energy, and sustainable technologies. The close collaboration between academia and industry translates research into practical applications. Research, experience, and technological capabilities converge here. This creates ideal conditions for testing new ideas, refining them, and putting them into practice. Science and research find an environment where cooperation, knowledge transfer, and innovation can flourish—a point clearly illustrated by the Department of Human-Machine Systems Engineering at the University of Kassel in its promotional materials.
