Four-day magnesium training course at the GTK's Metakushalle technical center

Four days full of magnesium and state-of-the-art casting technology. The GTK offered its first training course on magnesium in foundry technology in September. The training participants from Robert Bosch GmbH were enthusiastic and were able to take a lot away from the event.

Since the commissioning of the new thixomolding plant in the summer of 2021, the GTK is now able to map all common magnesium casting technologies on an industrial scale with the Bühler Carat 140 compact cold-chamber die casting machine, the Frech DAM 500F hot-chamber die casting machine, and the Yizumi UN1250MGII thixomolding machine, completing the Casting Technology Center as a technology center for magnesium casting. This unique equipment enables the GTK, in cooperation with the machine manufacturers, to offer technology training courses on the possibilities and limits of magnesium casting as well as specific process technology for the respective processes.

From September 13-16, a 4-day pilot training course on magnesium technology was held for employees of Robert Bosch GmbH at the GTK's Metakushalle technical center. In addition to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martin Fehlbier, lecturers included Dr.-Ing. Philipp Ochotta from Yizumi Germany GmbH, Mr. Frank Hoffmann from the Bühler Group, Mr. Martin Schlotterbeck from Oskar Frech GmbH + Co. KG and Dr.-Ing. Horst Bramann from MAGMA Gießereitechnologie GmbH on Mg fundamentals, process technology and simulation applications.

Among the training participants were not only experts from foundry and production engineering, but also from design and purchasing, all of whom wanted to be picked up, informed and convinced by the speakers in equal measure.

The feedback from the participants was very positive throughout: from the organization, to the theoretical and practical training content alternating between the seminar room and on the equipment, to the bilateral exchange among participants and specialist area staff, the event was a complete success and is to be repeated with other participants.
