Expanded Course Offerings for the Winter Semester: Information Session on October 22

During the winter semester, our department will offer an even wider range of courses than before. To help you get oriented, we’re holding an interdisciplinary orientation session where we’ll provide a brief overview of all the modules. This session will take place on October 22, 2024, at 4:15 p.m. in Lecture Hall 4 (Moritzstr. 18, Campus Center / Room 1127).

 

If you’d like to learn more about our modules in advance:

1. Project Management 1

    • Fundamentals of project management, with a focus on methods for planning and managing projects
    • Well-suited as a foundation for further specialization through specialized courses in our field
    • A highly interdisciplinary program with participants from over 20 degree programs (Go to the Moodle page)

 

2. Strategic Project Management

    • Taught in English
    • Focus on the integration of project management and corporate strategy
    • Of interest to students who already have some knowledge of project management and would like to delve deeper into management topics (Go to the Moodle page)

 

3. Research Methods and Analytics in Project Studies

    • Taught in German, with a brief section in English
    • Focus on scientific and analytical approaches and methods
    • Particularly suitable for students who are about to begin their thesis
    • This course serves as a “bridge” to help students begin their thesis in our department (Go to the Moodle page)

 

4. Leadership and Behavior in Projects

    • Block course consisting of individual sessions, taught in German
    • Focus on typical team and leadership situations as they arise in business practice
    • High practical relevance; development of your own skills as a future leader (Go to HIS registration; binding registration/withdrawal by October 31; limited number of participants)

 

5. Project Modules 1 & 3 of our SMART BREW project series

    • Project-based work, directly on the equipment: The focus is on the digitization of portafilter espresso machines, equipping them with sensors, actuators, and microcontrollers, as well as developing approaches for innovative business models. The modules (3 CP each) can also be combined (details on the SMART BREW project series).
    • In “Project 1 – Agile Development of IoT Solutions,” you’ll use sensors and actuators to transform an analog espresso machine into a smart machine and connect it to a network. From monitoring and adjusting the brewing process to creating personalized specialty coffees—this is where your creativity comes into play (Register here; limited enrollment).
    • In “Project 3 – Development of Smart Product-Service Systems,” you’ll learn about the Design Sprint methodology from Google Ventures and, in guided workshops, develop needs-based solutions centered on coffee enjoyment for the world of tomorrow (Register here; limited enrollment).

      Become part of a select innovation team and work together to design a coffee machine that’s not only technologically advanced but also brews the best coffee in the world. In addition to free coffee, you’ll have your own project room for hands-on prototyping.
