16th European Annual Conference on Human Decision Making and Manual Control

December 9-11, 1997, Kassel, Germany

The 16th European Annual Conference on Human Decision Making and Manual Control was hosted by the Laboratory for Human-Machine Systems, which celebrated its 15th anniversary in 1997. Following the 12th European Annual Manual in 1993, this conference has been held for the second time at the University of Kassel. The city of Kassel, where the Grimm Brothers collected their famous fairy tales, is located in the centre of Germany almost halfway between Frankfurt Airport and Hannover, easily reachable by ICE (fast express) trains or by car.
The conference continued the tradition established in 1981 in bringing together young researchers from different disciplines of the human-machine system field in an informal way. The conference aimed at providing a forum for extensive discussions of new and on-going work among all participants. Consequently, we focused on technical papers and planned ample time for presentation and discussion. Again we were able to preserve the atmosphere of an informal conference among friends working towards the same goal - a better adaptation of technical systems to the human.
