Microstructure of Fe-Mn-Al-C lightweight steels: Our current experiment at DESY P02.1
Our team has recently performed a series of synchrotron measurements at the P02.1 beamline of DESY PETRA III in Hamburg. P02.1 offers high-energy X-rays and a large Q-range, which is very well suited for combined total scattering and diffraction investigations. We investigated three Fe-Mn-Al-C lightweight steels and used different experimental modes, including in-situ heating in capillaries, ex-situ total scattering with robotic sample guidance and multi-point diffraction on flat samples. With this data, we can track phase formation, precipitate behavior, coherence changes and grain growth. The total scattering data are currently processed with pyFAI and PDFgetX3. First results show the broad signals of a disordered solid solution, and the evaluation of the aged samples is already underway.
