Doctoral seminar 2026

Doctoral seminar with guests, held this year in Stubaital in Austria from Wednesday to Saturday.

Performance was not only demonstrated during engaging presentations, but also in winter sports activities and evening social events.

Establishment of a GAMM Young Researchers Group at the University of Kassel

At the beginning of the year, a group of dedicated early-career researchers initiated the establishment of a GAMM Young Researchers Group at the University of Kassel.

The aim of this format, supported by the Gesellschaft für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik GAMM, is to strengthen networking and interdisciplinary collaboration among master’s students and doctoral candidates in the fields of applied mathematics and mechanics. The group currently consists of 24 members from the departments of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FB 10), Civil and Environmental Engineering (FB 14), and Mechanical Engineering (FB 15).

Following an initial get-to-know meeting in one of Kassel’s city parks, several academic activities are already planned for the coming months, including seminars with external speakers and interactive workshops. In the future, the program will be expanded to include excursions to research institutions and industrial companies in order to make a sustainable contribution to supporting early-career researchers.

The Young Researchers Group provides information about planned and past activities on its website.

Awarding of the Dr. Klaus Körper Prize 2025 to Dr. Andreas Warkentin

The Dr. Klaus Körper Prize is awarded by the Society for Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM) in recognition of excellent doctoral achievements in applied mathematics and mechanics and is supported by the Dr. Klaus Körper Foundation with prize money. One of the two prizes in mechanics, which were awarded at the GAMM annual conference in Poznan/Poland in April 2025, went to Dr.-Ing. Andreas Warkentin, a member of the Engineering Mechanics / Continuum Mechanics group, for his dissertation entitled "Integrated model framework for the constitutive description of coupled visco-ferroelectric dissipation and identification and analysis of circular processes for efficient energy conversion".

Dr. Johannes Scheel awarded the silver badge of honor

Dr. Johannes Scheel, former employee in the Department of Technical Mechanics/Continuum Mechanics, received the silver badge of honour from the German Association for Materials Research and Testing (DVM) "for outstanding technical and scientific achievements in the field of materials research and testing". The award ceremony took place as part of the annual conference of the Fracture Mechanics and Component Safety Working Group on February 20, 2024 in Kassel.

Appointment of Andreas Warkentin as Chairman of the GAMM Juniors

After Andreas Warkentin, research associate in the Department of Engineering Mechanics/Continuum Mechanics, was appointed a GAMM Junior by the Society for Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM) in 2022, he has held the office of Chairman of the GAMM Juniors since 01.01.2024 and, as such, represents the interests of excellent young scientists from the fields of applied mathematics and mechanics.
