Engineering Mechanics/Continuum Mechanics

The professorship has been held by the current chair holder since September 2009. Predecessors in office were Professor P. Haupt (1989 - 2003) and Professor O. Bruhns (1980 - 1986). The responsibility in teaching lies on the one hand in the teaching of the fundamentals of engineering mechanics for undergraduate students of different disciplines, especially mechanical engineering and industrial engineering. Continuing the tradition of the chair, the focus of teaching in the advanced studies is on the areas of continuum and solid mechanics. Research focuses are in the areas of fracture and damage mechanics of metallic, quasicrystalline, ceramic and polymer materials, modeling and investigation of constitutive behavior of multifunctional materials, especially ferroelectrics, ferromagnetics and multiferroics, and numerical solid mechanics.
