Department of Solar and Systems Engineering

Welcome to the Department of Solar and Systems Engineering

Since 2001, the Department of Solar and Systems Engineering has been a section of the Institute of Thermal Engineering at the University of Kassel.

It primarily focuses on large-scale heating and cooling supply systems for districts, residential areas, and industrial complexes. Key areas of focus include the planning, analysis, and further development of existing heat supply systems, with particular emphasis on innovative thermal storage technologies, heat pumps, solar thermal energy, and efficient waste heat utilization.

Another major research focus is on sorption technologies and thermal components. The work in this area includes both experimental investigations and mathematical modeling and simulation.

In addition to research, the department is actively involved in teaching and training in the fields of thermal energy engineering and renewable energy systems.
