Institute of Materials Engineering represented at MI(N)T-Mach-Saturday 2025
On June 14, 2025, the University of Kassel opened its doors for the third time for the MI(N)T-Mach-Saturstag at the Wilhelmshöher Allee campus. Numerous families and interested parties took the opportunity to learn about exciting topics in the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology - and to get hands-on themselves.
The Institute of Materials Engineering was also represented with its own booth. Marius Horn, Lisa Ott and Johanna Zeisberg (pictured from left) vividly presented current research topics and invited both young and old guests to participate.
One of the most popular attractions was the Charpy impact tester, where self-made samples made from LEGO bricks and popsicle sticks were put through a mini crash test. Another highlight was the microscopic analysis of metallic microstructures—including fish scale-like patterns produced by additive manufacturing (metal 3D printing). Curious visitors also used the microscope to examine their clothing, jewellery or even their own skin.
The Institute of Materials Engineering is delighted by the great interest and the many fascinating conversations at the booth—a successful day dedicated to the wonders of STEM.
