Institute of Materials Engineering - Metallic Materials - once again exhibiting at the "Formnext 2025" trade fair
From November 18 to 21, 2025, the department of Metallic Materials presented exciting insights into current research topics at this year's Formnext - Where ideas take shape. The focus was on the relationships between process and microstructure properties, which are investigated at the Institute of Materials Engineering for a holistic material characterization, which was illustrated using several additively manufactured components produced by SLM and LMD processes.
Formnext took place at the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre and is the largest international trade fair for additive manufacturing technologies, with over 800 exhibitors. The trade fair offered an impressive variety of innovations in the field of forward-looking 3D printing technologies. From manufacturers of polymer filaments and metal powders to complete systems for industrial 3D printing, there were numerous exciting innovations to discover.
We would like to express our special thanks go to the BiTWerk research cluster - Biological Transformation of Technical Materials, which made our visit to the trade fair possible. We would also like to thank Hessen Trade & Invest GmbH, Technologieland Hessen and SCM messe marketing GmbH for their excellent organisation and support.
