From 24 to 26 March, the 5th Symposium on Materials and Additive Manufacturing - Additive 2026, one of the leading conferences for research and innovation in additive manufacturing, organized by the German Society for Materials Science (DGM), took place at the University of Kassel (see also the DGM review).

The conference presentations were rounded off with a poster exhibition in the evening, where scientists presented their work in direct exchange with an expert audience. The Institute of Materials Engineering at the University of Kassel was represented by Marius Horn and Timon Dommaschk. Marius Horn presented the influence of the powder feed rate on the microstructure of Co-Ni-Ga high-temperature shape memory alloys. Timon Dommaschk presented an innovative method with which melt pool flows and the dissolution behavior of particles in additive manufacturing can be precisely investigated by tracking added tantalum particles using radiography images. His results provided new insights into the behavior of particles in the melt pool.

Timon Dommaschk's precise presentation and scientific depth not only attracted the interest of the visitors, but also convinced the jury. He was therefore awarded the prize for the best poster.
