Modern scripting languages
Scripting languages are becoming increasingly important in the development process, both in rapid prototyping and in production systems. In the project "Modern Scripting Languages" different languages will be investigated and applied and evaluated in some application scenarios.
Each group of participants will deal with two languages and implement several programs. In a bi-weekly meeting the collected experiences, problems and solutions will be discussed. Finally, the languages will be compared retrospectively through a short presentation.
The languages selected will primarily include Ruby, Python, and Perl. Other languages can be suggested in advance via email.
Tasks
Scenarios may include, for example:
- Standard computer science algorithms
- GUI development
- Grafik programming
- Web frameworks
- Parallelization options
For each group, topics will be chosen that match the interests and knowledge of the participants. Topics will be explained in more detail and discussed in the preliminary meeting.
Participants
Students in the diploma, bachelor's or master's program in computer science from the 5th semester onwards and other interested parties.
Requirements
Successful completion of the courses Introduction to Programming, Algorithms and Data Structures and Programming Methodology.
