Modern scripting languages II

Scripting languages are becoming increasingly important in the development process, both in rapid prototyping and in production systems. In the "Modern scripting languages" project, various languages are examined and applied and evaluated in several application scenarios.

Each group of participants will deal with two languages and implement several programs. The experience gained, problems and solutions will be discussed in a bi-weekly meeting. Finally, the languages will be compared in a short presentation.

The selected languages primarily include Ruby, Python and Perl. Other languages can be suggested in advance by email.

Task areas
The scenarios can include, for example

• Standard computer science algorithms
• GUI development
• Grafik programming
• Web frameworks
• Parallelization options

For each group, topics are chosen that correspond to the interests and knowledge of the participants. The topics will be explained and discussed in more detail in the preliminary meeting.

Participants
Students on the Diploma, Bachelor's or Master's degree course in Computer Science from the 5th semester and other interested parties.

Requirements
Successful completion of the courses Introduction to Programming, Algorithms and Data Structures and Programming Methodology.
