Seminar "Functional Pearls for Fun and Profit!"

The functional, side-effect-free programming paradigm is also becoming increasingly important in imperative languages such as Java and C#. In this seminar, papers on functional pearls will be presented:

Functional Pearls
... are elegant, instructive examples of functional programming. They are supposed to be fun, and they teach important programming techniques and fundamental design principles.

In particular, participants will practice

  • working with scientific, English-language publications
  • familiarizing themselves with a scientific field that was previously unknown to them
  • various presentation and teaching methods
  • the implementation of constructive feedback

Furthermore, they will have the opportunity to understand the development and emergence of an interesting and forward-looking programming paradigm on the basis of the most important older and current scientific publications.

Previous knowledge of functional programming is not required, but interest and the willingness to learn in a self-directed manner is a prerequisite.

Participants can of course also suggest their own topics. To do so, please send an e-mail to Michael Lesniak(mlesniak[at]uni-kassel[dot]de) at least one week before the preliminary discussion, stating the topic and literature.
