Scalable and Comparative Analyses of the Need for Expansion of Municipal Energy Networks Across Germany

SKALE develops methods for comprehensively estimating electricity and heat loads, renewable generation potential, and the need for distribution grid expansion. To do this, the project combines publicly available geodata, existing grid planning principles, and local data from industry partners.
The modeling tools FlexiGIS, DAVE, and pandapower are used, along with automated software for grid expansion planning. This enables the analysis and comparison of different scenarios for municipalities and regions.
The results are visualized on a publicly accessible DLR platform. Among other things, it highlights potential grid expansion needs and CO₂ reduction potentials, and helps municipal stakeholders identify areas requiring action and better prepare for the integration of new consumers and decentralized energy generation.
