University champion and runner-up in Roundnet

From 26.05. - 29.05.2022, the first official university championship in Roundnet took place in Cologne at the German Sport University.

The games were played in the men's (77 teams), women's (22 teams) and mixed (62 teams) divisions. The athletes from the University of Kassel competed in all divisions. In the men's and mixed divisions, there were so many teams that some had to go through an additional qualifying round on Thursday. While none of the mixed teams were able to make it through the qualifying round (albeit narrowly!), all of the men's teams qualified.

The men's and women's main rounds took place on Friday, with a women's team from Kassel, consisting of Theresa Knauf and Nora Haas, making it through to the final. In the main round of the mixed teams, a team from Kassel, consisting of Fabian Claus and Theresa Knauf, also made it to the final, with Theresa Knauf boasting an impressive record of two final appearances.

The finals of all divisions were held on Sunday. Despite the rather uncomfortable weather, the mixed teams started the first final at 10:00 a.m. in front of many loudly supporting spectators. After three nerve-wracking sets against the competition from Cologne, Paul Siemer and Klara Riester, Fabian Claus put the final point of the final with a successful attack and made the victory of the University Championship 2022 perfect. In the second final involving Kassel, the Knauf/Haas team were beaten by their strong rivals from Münster, Tina Gulden and Sabine Steidel. Overall, it was a successful weekend for the University of Kassel and we congratulate all the winners on their outstanding sporting achievements.
