University Sports Kassel at the adh General Assembly 2024 in Göttingen

On November 24 and 25, 2024, the members of the General German University Sports Association (adh) met for the 119th General Assembly in Göttingen to look back on the past year, make important decisions for the future and hold the regular board elections.

In view of current challenges such as digitalization and declining student numbers, the plenary assembly was highlighted as a central platform for pooling the strengths of the 206 member universities and developing innovative strategies for sustainable development. The highlights were the plans for the FISU World University Games Rhine-Ruhr 2025.

Even before the General Assembly, the student seminar took place on November 22 and 23 under the motto "Mentally healthy! In studies and volunteering" took place. Students from all over Germany discussed topics such as resilience and mental well-being and collected best practice examples to take back to their universities.

Special awards were presented at the adh gala: Freie Universität Berlin was named University of the Year for its outstanding commitment in the areas of competitive sport, health promotion and education.
Tim Wollenberg (cycling) and Miranda Wilson (badminton) were honored as University Athletes of the Year 2024 for their sporting successes and the inspiring combination of studies and top-class sport.

The Sustainability Award also set an example: Leuphana University Lüneburg and RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau were honored for exemplary projects in the field of sustainable university sports.

The events in Göttingen impressively demonstrated the diversity and innovative power of university sport in Germany - and gave the participants motivation and inspiration for the tasks ahead.
