Head to the Water: UNI in Motion Celebrates 10 Years of the Boathouse

On June 10, 2026, UNISport at the University of Kassel brought the campus right to the banks of the Fulda River with its “UNI in Motion” event and celebrated the 10th anniversary of the boathouse. Right on the Auedamm, students and employees tried out various sports and exercise activities and spent an active afternoon together. Prof. Dr. Ute Clement, President of the University of Kassel, and Dr. Julia Limmeroth, Director of UNISport, kicked off the event centered on sports, exercise, and health.

UNI in Motion 2026 — Former University President Prof. Dr. Rolf-Dieter Postlep delivers a welcoming address on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the boathouse on Auedamm.

The focus was on water sports such as kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and rowing, which were supervised by university sports instructors. There were also numerous hands-on activities on land, including challenges on the pull-up bar and rowing ergometer, as well as Zumba, small games, and health-related activities.

A sporting highlight was the half-marathon relay, in which teams divided up the approximately 21-kilometer course. The winning teams were delighted to receive attractive prizes sponsored by the Kassel Marathon, a new partner of the event. Techniker Krankenkasse also supported the day with interactive stations and provided information on health and prevention.

In the late afternoon, the university celebrated the 10th anniversary of the boathouse. Since its opening, it has served as a central hub for water sports at the University of Kassel and as an important meeting place for students, employees, and UNISports participants. Lukas Toby and Dr. Julia Limmeroth hosted the anniversary segment. Key remarks were delivered by, among others, former University President Prof. Dr. Rolf-Dieter Postlep and current Chancellor Dr. Oliver Fromm. In addition, the former directors of UNISports, Gerd Blömeke-Rumpf and Dr. Tobias Heyer, looked back on the development of this special place together with the guests.

Starting at 6:00 p.m., the day came to a close with music by Fullax and a relaxed atmosphere right on the water. The UNISports team would like to thank all participants, contributors, and partners who helped make “UNI in Motion” and the boathouse anniversary a success.
