Dr. Franziska Anna Seidel is a state-certified social pedagogue with master’s degrees in Global Studies/Social Work (Lund University), International Migration and Ethnic Relations, and Communication for Development (both from Malmö University). Since 2017, she has been working as a research assistant in the Theories and Methods of Social Pedagogy department under Prof. Dr. Sigrid James at the University of Kassel. Previously, she worked as a social worker in residential youth care for unaccompanied refugee children and adolescents and at a daycare center in Malmö, Sweden.
Her research focuses on (cross-border) child protection, transnational family relationships, child and youth welfare, (labor market) integration, and professionalization in social work. Her methodological focus is on qualitative research (including grounded theory and thematic analysis) as well as systematic and scoping reviews.
Dr. Seidel has completed numerous continuing education and professional development courses on children’s rights, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed pedagogy, suicide prevention, and project management. In the bachelor’s program in Social Work, she teaches courses on transnational families, (transnational) child protection, case work, and individual social assistance, as well as the ethical foundations of social work.
