Thesis Supervision

General information on supervision requests

For basic information on the requirements for your Bachelor's thesis and the procedure for finding a first and second supervisor and for preparing a synopsis, please read theMoodle course "Bachelor thesis in social work" . Start your request for supervision at least 4 months before registering your Bachelor's thesis. Explain why you are specifically writing to the person from the subject area and where you see a fit for the supervision of your thesis.
Your informed request for supervision should also include

  • an indication of the intended topic or subject area
  • a preliminary research question or possibly other possible questions
  • an initial rough outline and details of the planned approach
  • initial, particularly relevant sources

The range of topics of the theses I supervise

I am happy to supervise bachelor theses in the following subject areas:

  • Health-related social work/clinical social work, especially in the field of mental health in the social and health care system (e.g. social work in psychiatry/integration assistance/homelessness assistance etc.)
  • Social determinants of mental health (e.g. unemployment and homelessness, poverty and precarity, stigmatization and discrimination, social isolation and loneliness as well as categories such as gender, race, class, migration)
  • Human rights-based psychiatric care (implementation of the UN CRPD, deinstitutionalization, abolition of coercive measures such as involuntary placement, isolation, fixation and compulsory treatment, best practice examples such as the Trieste model, open dialogue, peer involvement such as EX-IN)
  • (Mental) health of social workers/students of social work
  • Prevention and health promotion in social and health care as well as by students and practitioners of social work

In general, I can also supervise Bachelor's theses in thematically related areas; this would then have to be clarified accordingly. Take a look at my past courses by searching the course catalog (also look up previous semesters). In addition, a look at the publications and research projects will give you an impression of the range of topics covered.
