German Studies at the Democracy Days: Half-truths in literature lessons (Miriam Langlotz & Jennifer Pavlik)
Watch out when reading II: Seeing through half-truths in secondary school literature lessons (seminar)
"Half-truths disorientate the human sense of reality. In the words of Hannah Arendt, they shake the 'ground on which we stand' by leading from the constraint of facts, which can be quite uncomfortable, into the arbitrariness of speculation." (Nicola Gess)
In view of the increasing political significance of disinformation campaigns, the planned workshop will focus on the potential of literature lessons for training a more critical reading attitude towards half-truths. Specifically, we will look at the phenomenon of 'half-truths' from the perspectives of literary studies and literary didactics in order to explore the extent to which aesthetic works can contribute to the formation of a more differentiated view that can - ideally - help us to better recognize fake news and the like in our media-influenced everyday reality.
This is one of three German studies events at the Democracy Days Teacher Training 2025.
