Workshop - Hessian party system

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, in cooperation with the University of Kassel, Department of the Political System of the Federal Republic of Germany, cordially invites you to this event.

How is the Hessian party system changing? Elections will be held in Hesse on January 27, 2008. According to current polls, the CDU will not regain its absolute majority. For the first time, the long-standing four-party system in Hesse could become a six-party system: With the Left Party and the Free Voters' Association, two new strong competitors are on the horizon. It is still unclear how the protest voter potential on the right will develop. Possible rock shifts in Hesse could be important indicators for further developments in federal politics. In German party research, the focus has so far been on the federal level, with hardly any research on state parties.

The workshop aims to fill this gap: It is about the development of the Hessian party system, the political culture of Hesse as well as issues that characterize the state.
