Ms. Frauke Mutschall successfully completes her doctorate

On 22.08.2025, Ms. Frauke Mutschall successfully completed her dissertation project with the disputation. As part of her doctorate - entitled "Gender in sports studies: The influence of biographical and habitual conditions on the perception, attitude and handling of gender issues" - she surveyed sports students in order to raise awareness of gender issues and find ways to effectively implement these issues in the first phase of sports education. On the other hand, the study served to concretize the concept of gender competence for the IfSS. Using the mixed methods approach, Ms. Mutschall collected quantitative and qualitative data, the results of which she then combined. The results of the study show that the topic of gender is perceived by sports students as an important part of sports teacher training. However, their own biographical experiences are used less as a learning opportunity. Dichotomous thought patterns are stable and persistent forces are recognizable via the habitus in that the implementation in the first training phase can be based on the biography of sports students. Due to the physical nature of sport as a subject, good access can be established via experience in particular.

Ms. Mutschall's doctoral thesis is therefore valuable for the further positive development of teaching at the institute. She presented her research work in her disputation to the four-member examination committee. Following her presentation, she had to defend her work in a scientific discussion with the members of this committee. Ms. Mutschall also successfully mastered this task!
